When Should You Schedule a Sick Visit?
Coughs, sore throats, mild stomach issues, and other common concerns can often be evaluated through primary care. Your clinician can review your symptoms, consider your medical history, and recommend appropriate next steps.
Pay attention to how symptoms change
The duration, severity, and progression of symptoms can help determine whether an appointment is needed. Contact your care team if symptoms are getting worse, are not improving as expected, or are especially concerning because of an existing condition.
Have a few details ready
Before your visit, note when symptoms started, any fever or other changes, medicines you have tried, and recent exposures. This information helps your clinician understand what is happening.
Ask about follow-up
Some illnesses improve with rest and supportive care, while others need testing, treatment, or another evaluation. Your care team can explain what to watch for and when to check back.
Recognize emergencies
Severe trouble breathing, new chest pain, signs of stroke, or other potentially life-threatening symptoms call for emergency care rather than a routine office visit.
